| 306 (aka LR306) | The 306 is a 510 threaded, low resistance (LR) atomizer. Many PV users of devices with 510 connectors prefer LR306 atomizers as they produce more heat than many other atomizers and may increase vapor production giving a stronger throat hit. |
| 401, 402, 403 | Refer to different lengths of electronic cigarettes (cig-a-likes). |
| 50/50 | An e-liquid blend of 50% PG and 50% VG. |
| 50/50 e-liquid | E-liquid with equal parts propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine, suitable for most vape kits. |
| 50ml | A standard size for shortfill bottles. |
| 510 | The most popular and common style of threading for electronic cigarettes available. Developed by one of the first e-cigarette manufacturers, it was widely adapted by many device manufacturers. 510 threads on the battery, or battery-containing component, are usually male, while the threading on 510 tanks, is usually female. |
| 510 | The most popular connection type for vape devices. |
| 60/40 | An e-liquid with 60% of either PG or VG. |
| 70/30 | An e-liquid with 70% of either PG or VG. |
| 80/20 | An e-liquid with 80% of either PG or VG. |
| Adapter | A dual threaded device (with one male side, and one female side) used to allow a specific style or type of tank, atomizer, cartomizer, or clearomizer to fit onto a battery of device with a different type of threading. (example: connecting a 901 threaded atomizer onto a 510 battery) |
| Adjustable airflow | Most vape tanks usually have two or three air vents of varying size drilled into their sides to allow airflow. Some have mechanisms to adjust the amount of airflow, most commonly a dial or a rotating ring. Adjusting the airflow allows the vaper to control the intensity and thickness of the vapour. |
| ADV | ADV or All Day Vape is an e-liquid flavour that vapers are happy to vape throughout the day rather than changing flavours midday. |
| All Day Vape | How vapers refer to an e-liquid they can use throughout the day. |
| Advanced Personal Vaporizer (APV) | Usually consists of larger battery capacity, and features such as variable voltage, variable wattage, battery life indication, and puff count. An APV may also be referred to as a modified e-cig (Mod). |
| Aerosol | Vapour produced by an e-cigarette. |
| AFS | An auto-feed system. |
| AIO | An abbreviation for “all in one,” referring to a device where the tank is integrated into the battery. These devices are compact, portable, and produce a discreet amount of vapor. |
| Air-Holes | Openings in an atomizer that control the airflow. The size of the air hole affects the draw resistance and the amount of air reaching the coil. |
| Airflow | Airflow is the amount of air that is sucked in with each drag. Looser airflows usually result in more vapour while tighter airflows produce less but leave a more intense flavour. The amount of airflow can change your overall experience of vaping. |
| Airflow adjustment | Feature allowing users to adjust the amount of air flowing through the device, customizing vapour flow. |
| Amperage (amps) | A measurement of the rate of flow of electrical energy flowing through a circuit. In APV’s the lower the amps, the less capable the circuit is in handling high voltages in combination with low resistance atomizers. |
| Amps | Short for ampere, a unit measuring electrical current. Vape device battery capacity is often measured in milliamp-hours (mAh), a fraction of an ampere. |
| Analog (Analog Cigarette) | A slang term used by the vaping community that refers to traditional, combustible cigarettes. |
| Anodizing | A process used to seal and finish aluminium by means of oxidation. |
| APV | Stands for Advanced Personal Vaporiser but is typically referred to as a mod. Such e-cigs have larger units with replaceable batteries, variable voltages or wattage depending on the make. |
| Aqueous Glycerine (AG) | Vegetable Glycerine (VG) that has been thinned with deionized water, making it less viscous (thick) for easier pourability, and more amenable for use in certain tanks. |

| Atomiser | An electrical component that turns e-liquid into a vapour. This is commonly referred to as a coil. |
| Atomiser Head | Part of an e-cigarette that transfers energy from the battery to heat the coil, vaporizing the e-liquid soaked in the wick. |
| Atty | Abbreviation for atomizer, commonly used to refer to the tank or clearomizer. |
| Auto Battery | Also known as draw-activated battery, it is triggered by inhaling through the device. |
| Auto Shut Off | When a device is able to automatically turn off if it’s overheating. Also known as Battery Cut Off. |
| Automatic | A style of electronic cigarette/vaporizer battery that does not have a button to activate the heating element. When the user draws on the mouthpiece, a special sensor within the atomizer is activated by changing air pressure, allowing for instant vapor production. |
| Automatic Shutoff | A common safety feature found on personal vaporizers that automatically shuts off the device after a pre-set amount of time passes without any use. |
| AWG (American Wire Gauge) | The standard used in the United States to designate the diameter of electric wire that is used to create the coils in e-cig atomizers. |
| Bakery Vapes | E-liquids with bakery-inspired flavours like Lemon Tart or Glazed Donut. |
| Bar Juice 5000 | A nicotine salt vape juice popular as an alternative to disposables with pod kits. |
| Base Liquid/Base Mix | The base composition of e-liquid before nicotine and flavourings are added. Typically composed of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerol (VG) in varying ratios. |
| Batt | Slang for Battery. |
| Battery | The battery is the main part of an e-cigarette. This term typically refers to e-cigs that don’t have a replaceable battery as they charge up manually or cannot be used once the power has run out. |
| Battery Safety | Safety measures concerning the use and maintenance of vape batteries. |
| BCC (Bottom Coil Clearomiser) | Clearomiser with the coil positioned vertically over the airflow, improving vapour production. |
| BDC (Bottom Dual Coil Clearomiser) | Clearomiser with dual coil atomiser, enhancing vapour production and reducing resistance. |
| Big Drip | A popular shortfill e-liquid range from Doozy Vapes, available in various flavours. |
| Blanks | Cartridges filled with dry material to be filled with e-liquid. |
| Blend | The ratio of VG (Vegetable Glycerine) to PG (Propylene Glycol) in an e-liquid. |
| Bottom Coil | A clearomizer design with the atomizer located at the bottom. |
| Bottom Vertical Coil Clearomiser or BVC | A clearomizer with a vertically positioned heating coil, allowing improved airflow and vapor production. |
| Box mods | Vaporisers with a box shape, providing more battery capacity and temperature control. |
| BP | Slang for “big pharmaceutical” companies. |
| Brick & Mortar (B&M) | Physical vape stores located on high streets where customers can purchase vaping products. |
| Bridge | A small, u-shaped, metal, mesh piece on the inside of an atomizer that acts to protect the coil and to wick the e-liquid from the cartridge. |
| BT | Slang for “big tobacco” companies. |
| Burner | Slang for a traditional, combustible cigarette/cigar. |
| Burnt hit | Unpleasant taste resulting from inadequate e-liquid on the coil, causing the coil to burn the wicking material. |
| Button-Triggered | A device activated by pressing a button. |
| BVC (Bottom Vertical Coil Clearomiser) | Clearomiser with the coil positioned at the tank bottom, ensuring even and rapid e-liquid distribution to the coil. |
| Cart or Carto | Short for Cartridge. Also known as Carto. |
| Cartomizer | Tank for holding e-liquid using fillers or Poly-fil. |
| Cartomizer/Cartomizer | A combined atomiser and cartridge in one device. |
| Cartomizer Punch (Carto Punch) | A device used for punching holes in cartomizers, in attempts to affect draw tension and e-juice flow. |
| Cartomizer: Dual Coil (DCC) | A cartomizer that uses 2 coils in order to increase vapor production. |
| Cartomizer: Single Coil | A standard cartomizer that uses 1 coil to produce vapor. |
| Cartridge (Cart) | A disposable plastic or metal tube filled with absorbent filler material that holds e-liquid. It is part of a 3-part e-cig consisting of the battery, atomizer and cartridge. |
| CASAA | Acronym for Consumer Advocacy for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association, a non-profit organization that campaigns for the rights of e-cig users. |
| Ceramic Coils | Coils utilizing ceramic material for wicking, known for longevity and flavour consistency. |
| Charger | Device for recharging e-cig batteries. |
| Chipset | The computer within a mod that controls its functions, including wattage. |
| Chubby Gorilla Bottle | A brand known for premium e-liquid bottles featuring a wider mouth and a tight dripper base to prevent leaks. |
| Cig-a-like | Is a type of e-cig that resembles a tobacco cigarette. |
| Cig-A-Like | Any electronic cigarette or personal vaporizer that has a similar appearance to a traditional cigarette. |
| Cigalike | First-generation e-cigarette resembling a traditional tobacco cigarette. |
| Clapton Coil | A coil design with a thin wire wrapped around a thicker wire, providing increased surface area for heating. |
| Clearomizer | A transparent version of a cartomizer, that allows users to see how much e-liquid is remaining. Clearomizers typically hold 2 to 3ml of e-liquid, and include a Top Coil, Bottom Coil (BCC) or Bottom Dual Coil (BDC) configuration. |
| Clone | A counterfeit copy of a branded e-cigarette. |
| Cloud Chaser | A vaper who seeks to produce large vapor clouds. |
| Cloud Chasing | The activity of electronic cigarette / Mod users tweaking their hardware and e-juice selections to produce ever bigger and thicker clouds of vapor, to obtain bragging rights in casual and competitive situations known as Cloud Competitions. |
| Cloud Competition | See Cloud Chasing. |
| Cloud Juice | Vape juice designed for producing dense vapor clouds. |
| Cloud(s) | Refers to the vapor that is exhaled when using electronic cigarettes. |
| Coil | The heating element that, when electricity passes through it, is used to vaporize the e-liquid in a vaping device. The metal coil is usually made up of Nickel, Nichrome or Kanthal wire. |
| Coil Jig | A Coil Jig is a metal tool meant for rebuilding the coil in an e-cig. |
| Coil Master | A brand specializing in tools for building vape coils. |
| Coil wire | Metal wire within a coil, heating e-liquid in an e-cigarette. |
| Cone Threads | A threading type used by some companies touted to provide better connection between their atomizer and the battery. |
| Connection | Usually refers to the threaded piece of the battery to which an atomizer/cartomizer/clearomizer is connected. |
| Connection Type | The type of connection between the battery and atomizer, commonly 510 or eGo. |
| Contact Pin | The metal pin connecting the battery and coil, transferring power to heat the coil. |
| Cotton | The material wrapped around the coil to absorb e-liquid. |
| Crystal Vape Bars | Disposable vape devices with a sleek, compact design. |
| Custom Mod | Any PV or APV that is (usually) handmade or in limited production, and is not available as a mass production item. Many material types are used including metal, plastic and wood to produce custom Mods, and creators often take great pride in their works, viewing them as one-off works of art. |
| Cut-Off | A safety feature that automatically discontinues power to an electronic vaping device after a pre-determined length of time, or after a pre-defined activity. It prevents the atomizer from overheating and being destroyed. Power is able to be restored after a waiting period, or upon resetting of the circuit. |
| DCA / 306DCA | Abbreviation for a 306 Drip Cup Adapter. |
| DCT (Dual Coil Tank) | A tank, usually capable of holding 3-6ml of e-juice, with a replaceable dual coil atomizer. |
| De-wick | Removing the wick from an atomizer. The wicks in many RDAs/RBAs can be removed and replaced, allowing for new wicking material to be installed. |
| Deck | The area where coils are installed and builds are made in a rebuildable atomizer. |
| Diacetyl | Harmful compound found in some e-liquids, linked to ‘popcorn lung’. |
| Diacetyl | A harmful ingredient previously found in some e-liquids. |
| Digital Cigarette | Another name for Electronic Cigarette. |
| Dinner Lady (Brand) | A prominent UK e-liquid brand offering a wide range of flavours. |
| Dipping | Immersing an atomiser in e-liquid before vaping. |
| Direct to Lung (DTL) | Vaping style where vapor is inhaled directly into the lungs. |
| Direct to lung (DTL) | Vaping technique where vapour is inhaled directly into the lungs from the mouthpiece. |
| Disposable e-Cigs | Electronic cigarettes that are designed to be used and then thrown away once the unit discontinues to produce vapor. |
| DIY | Doing it yourself, often used in vaping for coil building or e-liquid mixing. |
| DIY (Do-It-Yourself) | Refers to the activity of making your own e-liquid. |
| DIY e-liquid | Homemade e-liquid mixed by the vaper. |
| DNA | Refers to a small, variable wattage circuit board, designed and built by EVOLV, LLC for modders. Different variations of the board are produced, with its more common variation capable of producing 40 watts of power. |
| DNA Chip | Control board found in some vape devices. |
| DNA Mod | A vape mod using the DNA chip. |
| Doozy Vape (Brand) | An award-winning e-liquid manufacturer known for high-quality flavours. |
| Double Drip | E-liquid manufacturer famous for flavourful coil sauce range. |
| Draw | Refers to the amount of force required to accommodate inhalation through the mouthpiece of an e-cig. |
| Draw Activated | A vape device activated by inhaling. |
| Drip (Dripping) | Refers to the activity of “dripping” drops of e-liquid directly onto an atomizer. Many enthusiasts claim that dripping provides the best flavour and vapor production over other methods of vaping. |
| Drip Kit | A vaping device configuration consisting of a battery, atomizer chamber, and drip tip, designed specifically for dripping. |
| Drip Shield | A round metal or plastic tube that slips over an atomizer, designed to minimize leaking of e-liquid. Excess e-juice flowing from the wicking material will be redirected back to the wicking material instead of leaking onto the PV, so it can be available to be vaporized by the atomizer. |
| Drip Tip | A mouthpiece accessory with a large enough opening to allow drops of e-juice to be dripped directly to the atomizer/cartomizer without the removal of the tip. |
| Drip Well | A recessed area around the connector on an APV or Mod that is designed to catch any e-liquid that might leak out from the air vents at the base of the atomizer/tank/cartomizer, etc. Also may refer to a recessed area around the coil connectors of an RDA designed to catch excess juice and hold wicking material. |
| Drip/Dripping | Directly adding e-liquid onto the atomizer for increased vapor and flavour. |
| Dripping | The process of putting liquid onto the coil instead of in a cartridge. |
| Dry Burn/Hit | Occurs when a coil is electrified and heats up, while the wick is not saturated. Dry burns can be done intentionally in an attempt to clean a coil, burning off impurities, while the user does not inhale. A dry hit is usually the unintentional result of allowing a wick to run dry, producing a foul, burnt taste accidentally (and regrettably) inhaled by the user. |
| Dry Hit | A term used to describe the drag of an e-cig when the coil has burnt out. |
| Dry smoking | Atomiser flooded with e-liquid, requiring replacement of the mouthpiece. |
| DTL or DL | Standing for Direct To Lung. It’s a style of vaping where the vapour is drawn directly into the lungs, like taking a deep breath (also see MTL). |
| Dual Battery or Dual 18650 | A mod powered by two 18650 batteries. |
| Dual Coil | A coil with two heating elements for increased vapor production. |
| Dual-Activation | A device that can be activated by inhaling or pressing a button. |
| Dual-Coil Cartomizers | A type of cartomizer with two coils. |
| E-Cig | Electronic cigarette. Also known as E-Cigarette and Electronic Cigarette. |
| e-Juice | Also known as e-liquid, smoke juice, nic juice, eJuice, eLiquid, smoke oil – it is the liquid component, often containing nicotine, that is vaporized in electronic cigarettes and vaping devices, to be inhaled by the user. Usually comprised of flavouring, diluents (fillers) such as vegetable glycerine and/or propylene glycol, deionized water, and may or may not contain nicotine. |
| E-Liquid | Also known as eLiquid, e-Juice, eJuice, smoke juice, nic juice, smoke oil, vape juice- it is the liquid component, often containing nicotine, that is vaporized in electronic cigarettes and vaping devices, to be inhaled by the user. Usually comprised of flavoring, diluents (fillers) such as vegetable glycerine and/or propylene glycol, deionized water, and may or may not contain nicotine. |
| E-Pipe | An e-cigarette resembling a traditional tobacco pipe. |
| E-Smoke | Another slang for an electronic cigarette. |

| ECITA | Electronic Cigarette Industry Trade Association, advocating fair regulations for the UK e-cigarette industry. |
| Eco Mode | A feature reducing power usage to extend battery life. |
| eGo | An older style of battery used in early e-cigarette starter kits. |
| eGo/eGo Style | A style of electronic cigarettes. The eGo battery is designed with integrated circuitry and is available in a variety of sizes, features, colours, and designs. |
| Ekowool | A brand of braided silica filament that may be used as wicking material for rebuildable atomizers. |
| Eleaf (Brand) | A vaping brand known for quality and value. |
| Electronic Cigar | Comprised of the same components of an e-cig, an e-cigar is larger, and shaped to resemble a traditional tobacco cigar. |
| Electronic cigarette | Device emitting vapour, usually containing a battery and an atomiser vaporizing e-liquid. Also known as e-cigs or vapes. |
| Electronic cigarette (E-cigarette) | Device that vaporises e-liquid for inhalation, without combustion. |
| Electronic Cigarette Association (ECA) | An industry group formed in early 2009 that is made up of suppliers and manufacturers who combined resources to increase lobbying power and share information, and promote the e-cigarette as a legal option for smokers in the USA. |
| Electronic Cigarette Starter Kit | An entry-level grouping of components often including 2 batteries, 1 or 2 cartomizers/atomizers/clearomizers and a mouthpiece or drip tip. |
| Element E-liquid (Brand) | A renowned e-liquid manufacturer known for innovative products. |
| Elf Bar (Brand) | A popular disposable vape brand. |
| Elfa | A prefilled pod system manufactured by Elf Bar. |
| Elux (Brand) | Manufacturer of the Elux Legend disposable vape. |
| END | Electronic Nicotine Device, scientific term for e-cigarette. |
| ENDS | Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems, referring to vape products designed for nicotine delivery. |
| Filler | Material inside a cartomizer that absorbs e-liquid. |
| Filler Material (Filler) | Material placed inside of a cartridge/cartomizer that is absorbent. It is used to absorb and contain the e-liquid inside of the cartridge and regulate its flow to the atomizer, for consistent, continuous vaporization. |
| Filling Material | The filling material is what is also referred to as ‘wick’. This is usually either silica or organic cotton wool. The filling or wicking material acts as a sponge to soak up the e-liquid in your tank or cartomizer and feed this to the heating coil. |
| Filling Port | The filling port is the small opening of a tank or pod. This is where vape juice is squeezed into to fill the tank or pod with e-liquid. Insert the nozzle of your e-liquid bottle into the filling port and fill with e-liquid. |
| Fins | Metal ridges on the drip tip to dissipate heat. |
| Fixed Wattage/Fixed Power | Fixed wattage refers to vape kits that deliver a constant power output at a fixed level. The wattage of the device can’t be adjusted. Fixed wattage devices are easy to use and require less set-up, ideal for customers looking for hassle-free vaping. |
| Fixed-Coil | A fixed coil or built-in coil refers to refillable vape pods where the coil is built into the pod and can’t be removed. Fixed-coils require less maintenance, when the coil stops producing vapour replace the entire pod with a new one. This eliminates the need to deal with messy coil changes, just change the pod instead. |
| Flavour Cartridge | Another term for a cartridge containing e-liquid. |
| Flavour chaser | Vaper prioritising flavour in vaping. |
| Flavour Chaser | Almost the opposite of a cloud chaser. Someone who strives for the best flavour possible from their vape. |
| Flavour Chasing | Flavour chasing is a term associated with vapers looking for the very best flavour from their e-liquid. |
| Flavour/Flavourings | The ingredient in your e-liquid which makes it taste nice. Whether you prefer a more typical flavour such as tobacco or menthol or if you want something a bit more out there, the industry now offers a wide range of flavours to suit individual tastes. |
| Flooding | Flooding is when a vape tank or vape pod has been ‘over-wicked’ or oversaturated with e-liquid. Your tank may be over filled with juice, you have primed your coil with too much e-liquid, you have accidentally dripped e-liquid down the central airflow tube or have used an improper vaping technique. A flooded tank reservoir will often result in gurgling and leaking. Flooding can be avoided by only filling the tank or pod to its capacity. |
| Food and Drug Administration (FDA) | A federal agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services that writes and oversees rules and regulations pertaining to the safety of food and drug products sold within the United States. |
| Freebase | The term freebase refers to the original nicotine found in e-liquid. Freebase is the purest form of nicotine, the nicotine is converted from its naturally occurring ‘salt’ stage into a ‘pure’ form. Freebase liquids provide a stronger throat hit compared to nic salt liquids. |
| Freebase nicotine | Standard form of nicotine used in tobacco cigarettes and e-liquids. |
| French Hit | Vaping out of the lungs, and then re-inhaling it into the nose. |
| Fuse | A specially designed electrical component for use in mechanical Mods to help safeguard against some types of Li-Ion battery failure. |

| Genesis atomiser | Rebuildable atomiser with the tank below the coil deck. |
| Genesis Atomizer | An advanced (not for beginners) rebuildable atomizer (RBA) that uses stainless steel mesh as a wick, and sits on the top of a tank (usually glass) with one or more holes in the deck leading down into the tank. Users claim that this setup gives the taste and flavour of a dripping atomizer, with the added convenience of a tank. |
| GG (Golden Greek) | A brand of quality mechanical Mods produced in Greece. |
| Glassomiser | A glassomiser is a clearomiser with a Pyrex-glass tank for a better quality product and to avoid damage from e-liquids that can break down plastic tanks. |
| Glassomizer | A clearomizer using glass, rather than plastic, for the tank. Examples include the Kanger Protank, and the Nautilus by Aspire. |
| Glycerin | A thick, sweet liquid used as a base in e-liquid. |
| Goose neck | Extended drip tip available in various colours, shapes, and sizes. |
| Goose Neck | A mouthpiece extension for your PV that resembles a goose’s neck. Goose necks are available in assorted colours and sizes. |
| GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) | An acronym coined by the FDA to denote that a product or substance is considered safe to be used under the conditions of its intended use. |
| Grub screw | Type of screw on RBAs and RDAs to secure the coil. |
| Gurgling | Gurgling occurs when the coil is oversaturated with e-liquid and the coil has been flooded. It can also happen when there is condensation in the airflow tube. |
| Han Li (or Hon Lik) | Inventor of the modern e-cigarette. |
| High PG | High PG refers to e-liquids that contain greater amounts of PG (Propylene Glycol), to VG (Vegetable Glycerine). Almost all e-liquids available contain a ratio of both ingredients. High PG vape liquids are best suited to low wattage devices and vaped with a MTL (Mouth to lung) inhale. High PG liquids offer excellent throat hit, bold flavour with modest vapour production. |
| High Resistance | High Resistance refers to vape coils with a resistance above 1.0ohm. Higher resistance coils are best suited to lower powered devices for a MTL (Mouth to Lung) inhale with discreet vapour production. |
| High Resistance (HR) | Atomiser or cartomiser allowing higher voltage application. |
